Theft from Motor Vehicles – 3rd Precinct

During the week of August 2nd to August 8th, there were 22 thefts from motor vehicles reports in the 3rd Precinct.  Of those, 8 were forced and the remaining 14 were open windows or unlocked doors.  Items taken were purses, wallets, laptop/tablets, backpacks or other bags and tools.

A few minutes of prevention can save you hours of frustration…

  • Lock your car and close your windows.
  • Do not leave valuables in your car. Lock them in the trunk before you reach your destination.
  • Don’t assume items are not vulnerable if it is tucked out of sight. Lock your glove box.

Theft from Motor Vehicle is a crime of opportunity.

Call 911 if you see suspicious behavior in or near any vehicles!  Take note of suspect descriptions.

Report all incidents of theft and vandalism by calling 311. This is critical; it helps the MPD detect crime patterns and deploy police resources where needed.
