Artful Gift Boxes Cut Holiday Waste and Keep on Giving Are you finished with your shopping, or started with your wrapping? Instead of buying gift wrap that will turn into trash, try making some decorative gift boxes that can be used to give again. Decorate boxes and lids with odds and ends from around the house, like old magazines and newspapers, postcards, or wallpaper scraps. Use a collage effect. Make them funky and memorable. Make them gifts in themselves. Check out GreenGuardian and Reduce.org for more tips on cutting waste and simplifying your holiday celebrations. |
Natural Built Home Is a Local Source for Green Remodeling In the long run, the most economical way to improve or remodel your home is to choose products that will last a long time, and that ensure the health of your home and those who live in it. In today’s ‘warehouse’ economy, it can be tough to distinguish the smartest choices. Natural Built Home, in the Hiawatha neighborhood at 4020 Minnehaha Avenue, offers a host of safe and sustainable building supplies in one beautiful showroom. Offerings include flooring, countertops, lighting, sinks, and paint and other finishes. |

Make A New Year's Resolution: Help Keep Corcoran Healthy Shovel your neighbor’s sidewalk, just for the heck of it. Buy locally-made goods and foods. Donate what you don’t need to someone who needs it. Recycle. Ride your bike to the store. Think of local businesses as neighbors. Meet more neighbors. Express a concern to an elected official. Keep an eye on your block. Help the elderly. Do something beautiful and unnecessary. Volunteer. ~~~ The Neighborhood office will go into hibernation next week. Have a safe and joyful holiday! See you January 2. |
