MPCA Will Host Hearing on Biomass Plant, Air Emissions Permit

drawing of Midtown biomass facilityThe Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) will hold a public information meeting to answer questions about air quality issues and the draft air emission permit scheduled to be issued to Midtown Eco Energy LLC for their proposed wood-burning energy facility at 2850 20th Ave S. The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:30 pm on Thursday, December 13, 2007, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2730 E. 31st St. The meeting will consist of an open house (6:00 to 6:30), a formal MPCA presentation (6:30 to 7:00), and a question and answer period (7:00 to 8:30). Visitors should use the door on the east side of the church.

A copy of the draft permit and technical support documents will be posted at www.pca.state.mn.us. A copy of the draft permit will be mailed to any interested person upon written request. Free Foreclosure Prevention Seminar Will Be Offered

Another foreclosure prevention class will be held on Monday December 10th in the Corcoran Park building at 3334 20th Ave S, 6:30 – 7:30 PM. This free class is designed for homeowners facing foreclosure problems, or anyone that wants to help others who are. The class will cover a new FHA loan program that allows you to refinance out of your current loan, even if you are in foreclosure now, foreclosure “work outs,” the “short sale” process, tax consequences, pros and cons of bankruptcy and more. Folwell School Faces Change, Meeting Planned

Changes are in the works at Folwell Middle School, 3611 20th Ave S. Acedemic advisors to Minneapolis Public Schools have recommended to the school board that the Folwell Middle School program be closed at the end of this school year, with the expectation that the building will remain open but host a different program. The Folwell staff would like to invite community members to an informational meeting in the lunch room at Folwell this Thursday, December 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Volunteers Needed to Shovel Snow for Seniors

HandyWorks, a program of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, is recruiting both paid and volunteer workers to shovel snow for seniors living in South, Southeast and Northeast Minneapolis. Paid snow removal workers earn $15/hour and must have their own reliable transportation. STEP-UP Provides Jobs, Training for Local Youth

STEP-UP is a paid, summer jobs program for Minneapolis youth aged 14 to 21 years. Operated by the Minneapolis Employment and Training Program and Achieve!Minneapolis, STEP-UP teaches students good work habits and provides them with wages and an opportunity to contribute to a local community-based organization. The application deadline for STEP-UP is Jan. 11, 2008.
