Mayors Rybak and Coleman Kick Off The Energy Challenge from Corcoran

This morning, Corcoran resident Eric Lindberg hosted the Minneapolis and St. Paul mayors, along with Center For Energy and Environment's Paul Morin, to help him take steps that will decrease his home energy bills and 'footprint' on the environment. Lindberg, a longtime volunteer with CNO, says he does not consider himself an environmentalist, and was surprised to learn how much he could save. "Based on Paul's analysis, a $35 thermostat could save me $75 a year, and wall insulation would pay for itself in four years." The visit kicked off The Minnesota Energy Challenge and will be broadcast tonight on Channel 4 and other TV and radio stations.

Choose to Reuse, for Choose to Reuse Week, October 14-21

In Hennepin County alone, 32-million pounds of usable clothing and household goods—the equivalent of full shopping carts lined up between Minneapolis to Milwaukee—are thrown away each year. To highlight the numerous reuse opportunities provided by repair, rental, used, thrift, and consignment businesses, the County is sponsoring Choose To Reuse Week with such offerings as free coupon books and kids activities.

Elise Needs Help With Another Community Mural This Weekend

Local artist Elise Kyllo, who led the efforts of 40 painters in September to transform the Cedar Avenue Shell Station, will be back in action this weekend, and is calling on the community to help out or just stop by. The mural will be painted on the Modern Window Shade building across from the Shell Station at 34th and Cedar. Paint will once again be donated by CNO through a grant from Valspar. Read Elise’s invitation for details.
