PreventionZach Pearl’s award-winning hummingbird stencil is now available for use on neighborhood properties in any color. Check out a free demonstration of the stencil on a real stucco wall on Saturday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Susan Hensel Gallery, 3441 Cedar Ave S. Volunteers will be available to help put the hummingbird on your garage or fence for no cost later that afternoon. Contact Eric at CNO to learn more.

Carole Bersin’s award-winning birds design is also available in any color combination. While the piece wasn’t feasible as a stencil, Carole is interested in doing custom installations for a small contribution from the property owner. Contact Eric at CNO to arrange.

View all 4 winning designs in this slideshow of the project. The other winning designs--Angela Davis’ cattails and Megan Moore’s flowers--will also be made available in the coming weeks.

Neighborhood Book Sale needs books, volunteers

Mark your calendar: the 6th annual Corcoran book sale will offer thousands of low-price books as well as baked goods and raffle drawings. It all takes place from 9:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, October 3 at the CNO office. Proceeds support CNO’s work. We still need donations of quality used books. We also need volunteers to help with book sorting (Sept. 30, 6:30-8pm, Chatterbox pizza included), setup (Friday, Oct. 2), sale operations (between 8 and 4 on Oct. 3), and tear-down (4 p.m. Oct. 3). Please contact Amy Behrens at CNO to discuss a volunteer shift that works for you.

Police seek resident input for Corcoran policing plan

The Minneapolis Police Department will host a community meeting to seek residents’ input on policing priorities for the next year. According to the City of Minneapolis, each neighborhood will create a police safety plan focused on policing strategy, neighborhood engagement, monitoring results, and other efforts that are specific to each neighborhood. The meeting takes place Tuesday, October 6th at 6:30 pm at Corcoran Park, 3334 20th Ave S.

Will 3-PAC continue to connect residents and police?

The 3rd Precinct Advisory Council (3-PAC) has been a long-standing monthly meeting between residents and the police department. With crime- and safety-related meetings occurring in many neighborhoods that include input from and participation by the Minneapolis Police Department, is 3-PAC redundant? This question will be central to conversations at the next 3-PAC meeting on September 28 at 6:30 at the 3rd Precinct, 3000 Minnehaha Ave.
