Earn $50 Toward a Shade Tree at the Next Living Green Block Talk

Compost MuralStrategically placed shade trees can reduce air conditioning bills by over 25 percent, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Our community forest also shelters us from harsh winter winds. In order to achieve these savings and benefits, trees should be properly located. These topics and more will be covered at Corcoran's Living Green Block Talk #2, happening Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 pm at Joe's place, 3519 23rd Av S. Corcoran attendees will earn $50 toward a new shade tree!

We'll also discuss care for trees in light of a number of threats, including Dutch Elm, Emerald Ash Borer and drought.

What simple things do you do to conserve energy or reduce waste around the home? Get your block together to discuss these topics, and we'll help you and your neighbors implement these green ideas at home with small mini grants. Contact Eric at CNO with your questions and ideas for a block event.

Finally...thank you to everyone who took CNO's recent online survey on waste reduction, and congratulations to Laura from the 35xx block of 26th Ave, the lucky recipient of the compost bin!
