Walkways Under Hiawatha Slated for Safety, Wayfinding Improvements The Lake Street crossings under Hiawatha Avenue will soon be made over by Midtown Community Works, a local public-private partnership, with support from the McKnight Foundation. The project aims to improve safety, wayfinding, and aesthetics of the experience for pedestrians, transit users, and drivers passing under the bridges. The ReUse Center’s New Location Offers Expanded Showroom, Takes Donations The spacious new ReUse Center showroom just a block north of Lake Street accepts and sells donations of full kitchens, doors, windows, flooring, lighting, antique plumbing fixtures, and more. (Learn more) And when planning a remodeling project, be sure to consult their Deconstruction Services. This ‘construction in reverse’ process on a kitchen, for example, could yield a substantial net tax savings. Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) Seeks Candidates for Policy Board Despite continued cuts to its funding pool, the NRP remains a key funding source for most neighborhood organizations in Minneapolis. The Policy Board is the NRP’s governing body, and provides overall direction to the program and review of Neighborhood Action Plans. Neighborhood residents hold 4 of the 19 seats on the board and serve for a one-year term. The approximate time commitment is 6 to 10 hours per month. Citizen’s Academy Offers Opportunity to Learn about the Minneapolis Police This 10-week course allows Minneapolis residents to see what type of training police officers receive. Topics include Use of Force, Investigations, K-9 Unit, 911 Operations, and Emergency Response Unit. Students will participate in scenarios and simulation exercises, and some activities are ‘hands-on.’ Many past participants report feeling better equipped to work in a positive direction with the police. ...Learn more |
