Introducing Tina Tavera, Community Organizer for Latinos En Accion

Tina Tavera"Tina" Maria Tavera is the new Community Organizer for Latinos en Accion. Tina will have an office at the Corcoran Neighborhood Organization, 3451 Cedar Ave S.

Latinos En Accion is a program of the Corcoran Neighborhood Organization (CNO) in partnership with Longfellow Community Council (LCC), Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA), and the Resource Center of the Americas (RCTA). The purpose of the project is to build cohesive and inclusive communities by conducting outreach to Latino businesses and residents, identifying and empowering community members to address issues that impact the Latino community, and connecting the Latino community to non-Latino communities.

As an Archibald Bush leadership fellow, Tina Tavera studied Latino art organizations nationwide and earned a masters degree in public affairs from the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute. Prior to that, she founded the Mira Gallery at the Instituto de Cultura y Educacion, and spent two years organizing exhibits by local Latino artists. Tina also worked for 10 years with TRIO programs to help low income, first-generation, college-bound students. She serves on the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Panel (MAEP) selecting local artists' work for the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Tina lives in the Powderhorn Park neighborhood with her husband and two kids.
