There’s Still Time to Plan a Great NNO Block Party The deadline to apply for free street closure and door prizes on National Night Out (NNO) is next Tuesday, July 24. Never planned an event? You can do it! Keep it simple, and contact Eric at CNO for ideas or assistance. NNO is Tuesday, August 7 this year. While many Corcoran blocks hold elaborate annual block parties, all you need to celebrate National Night Out is a few neighbors gathering on a front lawn. If you are planning a NNO block party, be sure to register your event. To register, find out if your block is having an event or find a block party near you, visit the NNO web site or call 311. |
Green Sweep Done, HHW Collection is Coming Sixteen volunteers hauled 13,320 pounds of unwanted junk from neighborhood alleys during last Saturday’s Green Sweep event. Household hazardous wastes (HHW) were not accepted, but Hennepin County will accept such items as fluorescent bulbs, thermostats, electronics, pesticides, solvents, paints, and batteries during a nearby three-day collection event at 3607 E. 44th Street from September 20 to 22. Watch for more details in this newsletter. As a year-round alternative, the County also provides residents with a permanent HHW drop-off facility at 1400 W. 96th St., Bloomington (612-348-3777). |

Artists Unite, Again, on July 25 at Susan Hensel Gallery Put it on your calendar! On the 4th Wednesday of every month, artists from all over south Minneapolis meet at the Susan Hensel Gallery for food, fun, and conversation. This is social networking at its best. We share cool tools, jokes, artwork, complaints, and kudos. In May we awkwardly milled around meeting one another. In June we figured out that the creative combination of boxed red wine and cold watermelon was a pretty fair sangria. If we can figure this out by the second meeting, the sky is surely the limit! Next get together: Wednesday, July 25, 7:00-9:00 pm at Susan Hensel Gallery, 3441 Cedar Ave S. |
