Paint a mural, shop 100+ sales on Saturday, June 14 Another garage will receive a graffiti-busting, community-created mural on Saturday, June 14 at 3233 19th Ave S (in the alley). Painters young and old are invited to stop by any time from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm to help out, or to stay all day. The site will also be one of over 100 properties participating in the 3-neighborhood garage sale that starts at 9:00 am, with free sale maps available at Firefly Cafe (3445 Cedar Ave S) and the Midtown Farmers' Market (22nd and Lake) by 8:45. |
Clean Sweep: volunteers, food, and junk needed Corcoran's annual Clean Sweep event will happen on Saturday, June 28 this year, and volunteers and food are needed! This community event helps residents dispose of non-hazardous junk that cannot be reused, sold, or given away. Volunteers load these materials into trucks and haul them to the Southside Transfer Station. Learn more about leaving junk here. Developer withdraws plans for biomass burner Kandiyohi Development Partners has formally withdrawn plans to purchase the defunct trash incinerator at 2850 20th Ave S to develop "Midtown Eco Energy," their proposed wood-burning heat and power facility. Kandiyohi faced a growing number of setbacks, including difficulty negotiating an agreement with a prospective power purchaser (namely Xcel), new legislation requiring a study of cumulative air quality impacts in the Phillips neighborhoods, and growing skepticism by residents and community groups over the impact of the project on air quality. |
Celebrate 10 years of Restorative Justice On Thursday June 19, 6:00 to 8:00 pm, help Midtown Community Restorative Justice celebrate 10 years and 600 clients served. MCRJ exists to give offenders an opportunity to repair the damage caused by their actions and to assume a valued role in the community. MCRJ is a collaboration between Hennepin County, the City of Minneapolis, Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA), Central Weed & Seed, CANDO, Phillips Weed & Seed, and CNO. The event will take place at PPNA, 821 East 35th St. |

Events Committee seeks book donations for annual sale The annual Corcoran Neighborhood Book Sale is coming on Saturday, October 4th. At this time, CNO is seeking donations of quality books, videos, record albums, and CDs. Donations are now being accepted at the CNO office and the CNO booth at the Midtown Farmers' Market. Volunteer opportunities are also available; please contact Dayna at CNO. The next meeting of the Events Committee will take place Wednesday, June 18, 6:00 p.m. at CNO. |
CNO, Market receive Mayor's Healthy City Award The Corcoran Neighborhood Organization and its Midtown Farmers' Market were selected for the 2008 Mayor's Healthy City Award presented at a ceremony on Tuesday, June 10th. The award recognizes a leader in the community who has helped make Minneapolis a world-class, healthy city. The Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation is a key partner in this initiative which strives to improve and advance our city's overall well-being. |
