Volunteers, food needed for Green Sweep June 19

Volunteers, food, and junk are needed for Corcoran's annual Green Sweep event on Saturday, June 19. Green Sweep helps Corcoran residents dispose of non-hazardous junk that cannot be reused, sold, or given away. The materials should be left at the alley the evening of Friday, June 18 and clearly marked. Green Sweep volunteers load these materials into trucks and haul them to the Southside Transfer Station. Learn more about getting rid of unwanted stuff and volunteer opportunities here, and please contact Eric at CNO to help out. Volunteers get a delicious breakfast and lunch, incredible scavenging opportunities, a cathartic experience throwing junk around, and a chance to meet new neighbors.

Do you have old doors to donate? Put them out June 19

Corcoran GROWS is gearing up for an exciting new public art project. Do you have an old door or two (of any size, shape, color and condition) that you don’t need? Please leave it for Green Sweep on June 19, because GROWS needs doors for its public art project. A special “doors truck” will stop by to pick up your donated doors. Please have all items at the alley by the evening of Friday, June 18. Contact Eric at CNO with questions, and watch the GROWS website for more details on the July 24 public art event.

County will accept household hazardous waste August 7

Do you have household hazardous waste (HHW)? Not sure? Find details and a list of accepted materials. HHW can also be dropped off year-round at permanent drop-off facilities located at 1400 W. 96th St., Bloomington, and 8100 Jefferson Highway, Brooklyn Park. For more information call 612-348-3777.

Eat a burrito, help the Midtown Farmers Market

On Tuesday, June 15 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., print and bring this flyer to the Uptown Chipotle restaurant (26th and Hennepin), and half the proceeds of your meal will benefit the Midtown Farmers Market. And if you're a Facebook user, you can use this alternate link to the flyer and invite your friends. Of course, Midtown shoppers can pick up printed copies directly at the market. Find market hours and more.

Police Department: beware of aggressive solicitors

Minneapolis Police have received complaints of aggressive door-to-door magazine solicitors. Recently, a solicitor was arrested for operating without a license, and damage to property, when she would not accept no for an answer from a homeowner. Solicitors must be licensed and able to provide proof when requested. Use 9-1-1 to report any illegal, threatening, or suspicious activity.
