Bicycle Bridge Underway, Greenway Coalition to Hold Annual Meeting

Sabo Bicycle Bridge An elegant new pedestrian / bicycle bridge is taking shape to swoop over Hiawatha Avenue and light rail, just north of Lake Street. Westbound riders exiting the new Sabo Bridge will encounter road traffic at East 28th Street, and several parties including the Midtown Greenway Coalition are seeking a safe solution. According to Todd Sample, Corcoran representative, the Coalition and the Lake Street Council have passed a resolution advocating for a traffic light for both the cyclists and motorists at 28th. This arrangement is under review by city planners. To take a virtual tour of the new bridge, click here and then click 'play.'

According to Todd, a new bicycle station proposed for the Midtown Exchange complex at the Greenway is still on the table, but in a scaled-back form due to budget cuts. In addition, new funding secured by the Coalition is helping push forward a proposal to build a bicycle bridge over the Mississippi. Learn more at the Coalition website.

The Midtown Greenway Coalition will hold its annual meeting this Thursday, May 24, 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Midtown Exchange Global Market.
