Housing Fair will kick off local bargain home tours

On Saturday, March 28, check out the 15th annual South Minneapolis Housing Fair from 10:00 to 3:00 at South High School, 3131 19th Ave S. The free Fair will feature local contractors, lenders, and community organizations. Free seminars will include a Bargain Homes Tour presented by Corcoran resident Cynthia Frost. The 1:00 p.m. workshop session on how to find and finance a bargain home in this tough market will be followed by a tour of some bargain homes for sale in the neighborhood. Frost will continue the free bargain home seminars and tours on four Saturdays — April 4, April 11, May 9, and May 16 — from 10:00 am to noon beginning at Total Freedom Realty, 2223 E. 35th St (next to the Chatterbox Pub). $10,000 to buy a home in the Corcoran neighborhood

Tell your friends: a $10,000 forgivable loan called Minneapolis Advantage is now available in the Corcoran neighborhood, and features 0% interest and no monthly payments. Use Advantage for down payment, closing costs, or repairs. Funds are limited and are expected to go quickly. The purchaser must have an income less than $97,080, and qualify for a traditional fixed-rate mortgage. The property must be the purchaser's primary place of residence and must be a single family dwelling or duplex. The property must also be foreclosed or on the Minneapolis “249” vacant & boarded list or vacant for more than 30 days, if seller can document the vacancy. Complete guidelines are here. Community Garden Spring Resource Fair March 28

The 5th annual Community Garden Spring Resource Fair will take place Saturday, March 28 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Unity Church Unitarian, 732 Holly Ave, St Paul. Keynote speaker Paula Westmoreland from the Permaculture Research Institute will discuss creating a strong urban food system and a healthy ecological culture. The day features eight workshops, engaging educational displays, and local government efforts to support local food. Learn more.

CNO welcomes new staff member David Nicholson, who will manage the Midtown Farmers’ Market. David lives in south Minneapolis and has volunteered with the Kingfield Farmers Market since 2006. The City of Minneapolis will host two open house meetings to give property owners an opportunity to learn more about their property taxes, as well as programs that may provide some property tax relief.
