Bargain Homes Tours return to Corcoran

Learn how to find and finance a bargain home and tour some nearby homes for sale. Tours will take place April 10-11 during the National Association of Realtors’ Nationwide Open House, and April 24-25 during the Minneapolis-St. Paul Home Tour. Calling all homeowners and block leaders March 23

Corcoran has been invited to participate in Community Energy Services, a full service residential energy program. The opportunities include an engineering assessment of your home and a prioritized plan for improvements; rebates, stimulus funding, a CNO mini grant and other financing; and the chance to make Corcoran's housing more valuable and more green. Join us Tuesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Corcoran Park for a sneak preview.

Pot Luck and Movie Night on community gardening Mar. 27

Bring a dish to share, exchange gardening tips with neighbors, and watch the movie “The Power of Community—How Cuba Survived Peak Oil.” The event is organized by Corcoran GROWS on Saturday, March 27 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Corcoran Park, 3334 20th Ave S.

Observe worldwide Earth Hour on March 27

For one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, people around the world will turn off all electricity uses to make a statement of concern about climate change and demonstrate a commitment to finding solutions. Learn more here.

CNO General Membership meeting April 5

On Monday, April 5 at 6:00 p.m. at Corcoran Park (3334 20th Ave S) the CNO General Membership will meet to entertain a motion forwarded by the CNO board of directors to modify the bylaws of the organization. Board members have been working hard on the bylaw changes since June 2009. The bylaw change requires a two-thirds majority vote of the General Membership. The proposed bylaws text, along with meeting agenda and background information, can be found in the March Corcoran News.

Make your voice heard on Xcel project at April 5-6 hearings

An administrative law judge will preside over a contested case hearings in the matter of Xcel Energy’s bid to run high voltage power lines through south Minneapolis neighborhoods. Attendees will be able to testify on the proposed power line routings, including Xcel’s preferred overhead routing through the Midtown Greenway, and the alternative overhead routing through the Corcoran neighborhood along E. 31st Street. Sessions take place at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on April 5th and 6th at Plaza Verde, 1516 E. Lake St.

CNO thanks, supports Land Stewardship Project

Corcoran Neighborhood Organization and the Midtown Farmers’ Market thank the Land Stewardship Project for its advocacy this year. It's easy to become a member, as Corcoran and the Market did, to support LSP's mission of promoting stewardship, cultivating successful farmers, expanding the availability of healthy local food and empowering citizens.

Prevent burglaries; lock your doors

Since January 1, there has been a spike in home burglaries in south Minneapolis. A large proportion of the burglars gained entry through an unlocked door. Therefore, the Minneapolis Police offer the following advice: lock your doors! Also: make your house look occupied when you're away, operate a dusk-to-dawn light, and report suspicious activity to 9-1-1.

Volunteers needed to help eliminate graffiti

The Corcoran Neighborhood Organization seeks volunteer(s) to help continue a regular survey to find locations marked with graffiti. The information is used to foster timely abatement and enforcement by the City, and to help support property owners who want to prevent future graffiti. The job is quicker by car, but more fun by bike. To learn more, please contact Eric at CNO.

Plant a tree this spring for just $25

Tree Trust and the City of Minneapolis have begun offering $25 trees (one tree per household) on a first-come, first-served basis. Varieties include Fat Albert Spruce, Pagoda Dogwood, Kentucky Coffeetree, Blue Beech, Merrill Magnolia, Oak ‘Regal Prince’, Choke Cherry ‘Canada Select’, Redmond Linen, and Burgundy Belle Maple.
