$10,000 to buy a home in the Corcoran neighborhood Tell your friends: a $10,000 forgivable loan called Minneapolis Advantage is now available in the Corcoran neighborhood, and features 0% interest and no monthly payments. Use Advantage for down payment, closing costs, or repairs. Funds are limited and are expected to go quickly. The purchaser must have an income less than $97,080, and qualify for a traditional fixed-rate mortgage. The property must be the purchaser's primary place of residence and must be a single family dwelling or duplex. Housing Fair will kick off local bargain home tours Save Saturday, March 28 for the 15th annual South Minneapolis Housing Fair from 10:00 to 3:00 at South High School, 3131 19th Ave S. The free Fair will feature local contractors, lenders, and community organizations. Free seminars will include a Bargain Homes Tour presented by Corcoran resident Cynthia Frost. The 1:00 p.m. workshop session on how to find and finance a bargain home in this tough market will be followed by a tour of some bargain homes for sale in the neighborhood. Frost will continue the free bargain home seminars and tours on four Saturdays — April 4, April 11, May 9, and May 16 — from 10:00 am to noon beginning at Total Freedom Realty, 2223 E. 35th St (next to the Chatterbox Pub). Newspaper Team will meet to work on April issue On Monday, March 9 at 5:30 pm (note the time change), the volunteer Corcoran News Team will begin work on the April newspaper at CNO. Volunteers are needed, and available roles include writing, photography, editing photographs, and layout. No experience is necessary. |
Corcoran Events Committee seeks new volunteers On Wednesday, March 11 at 6:00 pm, the Corcoran Events Committee will meet at the CNO office. Join them to help plan fun neighborhood events such as the annual book sale, local restaurant fundraisers, and more. The group is currently seeking new volunteers and new ideas. |

Backyard Harvest seeks your participation in permaculture Learn how you can participate in urban permaculture at the Backyard Harvest informational open house, 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 11 at Butter Bakery & Cafe, 3544 Grand Ave S. Backyard Harvest's farmers contract with homeowners, renters and communities to create gardens in their backyards, maintain the gardens and harvest all of the produce weekly for each family. Learn to solve problems and prevent crime on your block The Minneapolis Police 3rd Precinct will offer its free Block Leader training workshop on Wednesday, March 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the 3rd Precinct Community Room, 3000 Minnehaha Ave. This workshop comes highly recommended by CNO staff, and will equip participants to organize or improve their block club, work with their Crime Prevention Specialist, and solve problems effectively. Corcoran Park offers spring programs, job opportunities Registration is underway for Spring programs at Corcoran Park. Check out the listings and register online here. Highlights include a new yoga course instructed by Corcoran resident Sue Redmond and youth sports (baseball, softball, t-ball). The Park is also seeking volunteer coaches. Neighborhood Sustainability Conference March 19 A free conference for volunteer leaders and organizers sponsored by the Alliance for Sustainability will take place Thursday, March 19 at the Wellstone Center for Community in St. Paul, 179 Robie Street East. Workshops cover grassroots projects and local advocacy, energy efficiency and renewables, biking and transportation for sensible communities, rain gardens and composting, and green events planning.
