Corcoran GROWS Resource Fair

GROWSOn Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10:00 to 2:00, check out a free resource fair at Corcoran Park (3334 20th Ave S) organized by Corcoran GROWS, a new local citizen movement. Come share your ideas and learn from neighbors' expertise.

Stop by any time between 10 and 2 to meet neighbors who are getting involved with food preservation, community gardening and yards-to-garden, bike repair, weatherization, solar panels and energy, skill and tool sharing, open source software, raising chickens, creating kids/parent play circles, the Midtown Farmers' Market, land use & transportation, permaculture/rain gardens/arsenic issues, composting and worms, edible landscaping and fruit/nut trees, public art and community building, and green block clubs.

At the featured 1:00 p.m. session led by garden guru Russ Henry, learn about growing perennial food crops in your yard. Other sessions will include Yoga with Sue at 10:30, Weatherization with Jim at 11:00, and Permaculture with Krista at Noon. The event will also include food, refreshments, and free kids arts activities.

Learn to rehab your old windows at March 4 workshop

If you own an older home, you may have drafty glass but don't want to lose those beautiful old windows. A $15 workshop at the Green Institute (2801 21st Ave S) on Thursday, March 4 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. will cover temporary and permanent fixes to reduce heat loss and air infiltration on existing windows, reversing deterioration on historic wood windows, and making an appropriate window replacement. Learn to solve problems and prevent crime on your block

The Minneapolis Police 3rd Precinct will offer its free Block Leader training workshop on Monday, March 8th and again on Wednesday, April 7th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the 3rd Precinct Community Room, 3000 Minnehaha Ave. This workshop comes highly recommended by CNO staff, and will equip participants to organize or improve their block club, work with their Crime Prevention Specialist, and solve problems effectively. South Minneapolis Housing Fair approaches March 6

Planning a home improvement project and not sure where to start? Join your neighbors on Saturday, March 6 from 10:00 to 3:00 at South High School (3131 19th Ave S) for the 16th Annual South Minneapolis Housing & Home Improvement Fair. This free event provides attendees a “one stop shop” to learn more about how to complete their home improvement project.

Garden Spring Resource Fair March 27

The 6th Annual Community Garden Spring Resource Fair will be held on March 27th, from 9:00 to 3:30 at the Sabathani Community Center, 310 E. 38th St. Ashley Atkinson from Greening of Detroit and Detroit's Garden Resource Collaborative Program will share how Detroit's food and farming organizations work together to give urban food growers what they need to be successful.
