After hearing public testimony on Jan. 27 about Xcel's proposed "Hiawatha Project," including Xcel's intention to route high voltage lines above the Midtown Greenway, a City Council committee asked Xcel to delay the project, to further study the area's electrical needs and alternative supply options, and to bury the line under 28th Street if sufficient need is demonstrated. The City Council is expected to vote on this resolution on February 6. The call for further study reflects positions taken by the Midtown Greenway Coalition and at least 5 neighborhood groups including CNO.
