Join Corcoran's award-winning Youth Murals project At his annual awards event last Friday, Council Member Gary Schiff praised Corcoran's Youth Murals project as a model for combating graffiti and fostering participation. The project created 6 new murals in 2007 with help from 220 volunteers, and was named "Ninth Ward Project of the Year." On Thursday, February 7, the project will continue with a "big ideas" meeting for new and continuing muralists. Ages 12 through 112 who have 0 to 112 years of art experience are invited to the Corcoran Park building (3334 20th Ave S) to share ideas about where, how, and what our next 7 murals will look like. Anyone and everyone is invited to help design, plan, and paint one or all seven of the murals this year. |
Keep an eye on vacant buildings on your block With the slump in the housing market and resulting foreclosures, the Minneapolis Police Department needs your help preventing burglaries, theft of copper piping, and other crime at vacant buildings. Please call 911 if you observe strangers or suspicious vehicles around vacant buildings, or people taking things out of the property. Call 311 to let Housing Inspections know if you see work being done on a property that may not be authorized. Call your Crime Prevention Specialist if you have information about who owns or is responsible for a vacant property, or would like to find out how to determine who owns a property. Corcoran's Housing Committee has also been tracking boarded and distressed properties including ownership and for-sale information--contact Eric at CNO. |
