Protect Your Right To Participate!

Minneapolis boasts a culture of participation, where everyday voices—not just City Hall's—play a meaningful and proven role in shaping our community. But new uncertainties loom. At a meeting of neighborhood leaders, the City's new 'Community Engagement Report' was described by one critic as 'the first cannon shot' of a veiled effort to dismantle residents' access to power. Readers, please speak out! Complete this online survey today and attend a public meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 7:00—8:30 pm at Plaza Verde, 1516 E. Lake St. (Read the City's Community Engagement Report.) (Read the response from Corcoran and other neighborhood organizations.)

Please nominate an outstanding volunteer today by contacting Matt at the neighborhood office. And if you volunteered in Corcoran in any way big or small in 2006, please mark your calendar and come celebrate! Volunteer Recognition Dinner: Monday, Feb. 5, Dinner begins at 6:00 pm, Reception at 6:45. At Corcoran Park (3332 20th Ave S). Please RSVP to Matt so we can provide enough food.

Dinner Will Honor Volunteers, Highlight Waste Reduction

Volunteers are the focus, but Corcoran’s Feb. 5 Recognition Dinner will also recognize easy ways to be 'green' in your kitchen and home. To make the dinner a 'low waste' event, the Events Committee plans to use durable wares rather than disposable, compost food scraps, and avoid food with excessive and non-reusable packaging. There are also plans to conserve energy at the venue itself. Biodegradable event programs will contain a 'surprise gift' that ties in with the event theme, 'Volunteers Grow Our Neighborhood.' You won't want to miss it!
